Avital Onn-Shachar is a General Legal Counsel with more than 10 years’ experience in commercial law specialising in the media sector. She joined Keshet Media Group in 2010 as Deputy General Legal Counsel and held the role for three years before teaming up with Keshet International’s (KI) CEO Alon Shtruzman and Managing Director Distribution Keren Shahar to establish the company’s international distribution and production arm.
Since then in her role as General Legal Counsel and Business Affairs she has overseen the growth of KI to almost every continent in the world, initially setting up JVs in the US, Canada and Australia and later wholly owned offices in London, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
She is responsible for a wide range of legal and commercial affairs across the fast-paced multi-national entity. Her role spans business affairs, business development and legal counsel as well as management of legal procedures and internal/external legal teams, and the protection and monetisation of the company’s worldwide IP.
During her time at KI, Avital has spearheaded pivotal, game-changing deals for the company including the sale of the award-winning drama Prisoners of War (“Hatufim”) to the US which became the basis for the smash hit Showtime series Homeland; and the sale of the company’s trailblazing interactive talent format RISING STAR which is the fastest-selling international talent format on record. She was also instrumental to the company’s recent deal for the much-talked-about espionage drama False Flag (“Kfulim”) with Fox International Channels - the first ever Hebrew-language property to be acquired in a landmark deal that will see it aired across their 127-country wide global network.
More recently Avital has worked on the establishment of KI’s new Interactive and Gaming division and new commercial ventures which will see the company expanding its presence in Europe.
Prior to joining Keshet, Avital spent more than five years at Zellermayer, Pelossof, Rosovsky & Co as associate where she specialized in commercial litigation and was responsible for a range of media clients.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law Studies and Business Administration from one of Israel’s foremost law schools, the Radzyner at the Interdisciplinary Center inHerzliya, Israel and if currently finishing her Masters in Commercial Law at the same school.
