Design law from a UK perspective
David Musker is a partner at R G C Jenkins & Co, specialising in patents and designs. He is a UK and European Patent and Trade Mark Attorney and Patent Litigator and member of CIPA and ITMA with extensive experience of practice and advocacy before the UK and European Patent Offices. He filed the first Community Design, on January 1 2003 and set up the design law blog, Class 99 (www.class99.org).
He has written two books on design law (The Design Directive (CIPA, 2001) and Community Design Law – Principles & Practice (Sweet & Maxwell, 2002, cited in several UK and OHIM judgments), and was founder-editor of the CIPA/ITMA Community Design Handbook. He lectures at Queen Mary & Westfield College, London University, and Oxford University, and has in the past also done so at CEIPI, Strasbourg, Bristol, and ETH, Zurich. He chairs the Designs and Copyright Committee of CIPA (the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents) and is past-President of the UNION Design Commission.
