Mr. Ilan has been Cleary Gottlieb’s lead IP counsel in its representation of Nortel Networks in the unprecedented $4.5 billion auction sale of more than 6,000 patents to Rockstar consortium, the largest stand-alone patent sale in history. The Nortel sale has been described as “the tipping point for perceptions of intellectual property.” Mr. Ilan also represented Google on numerous matters, including its acquisition of the Israeli social navigation application, Waze, and in the $2.35 billion sale of Google’s Motorola Mobility Home Business to ARRIS Group.
Recently, he also represented TPG in its investment in Uber, the application that connects passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire, Sony in its acquisition of Gaikai, a leading interactive cloud-
based gaming company, América Móvil in its investment in Sport195, a global social networking application for sports fans, Warburg Pincus and Endurance in the acquisition of the websites business of Intuit Corporation, the Home Depot in its acquisition of Red Beacon, a home services marketplace web company, Scientific Games in its acquisition of WMS Industries, a designer and distributor of video gaming devices and Stanley Black & Decker in the acquisition of the Israeli company Aeroscout, the global market leader in Wi-Fi-based tracking and monitoring solutions.
